Day 3 – John 3

Highlight – 27 John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’ 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease. 31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. 33 He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. 34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. ~ John 3:27-34

Explain – John realizes all that He has comes from above, from God. If God doesn’t give me anything, I have nothing to give. Jesus, the bridegroom comes from above is the One who is above all. We continue to see Joh’s humility before Jesus. John knows his call is fully centered on coming before Jesus, to make way for Jesus, and prepare the people’s hearts for Jesus. He is so full of joy just to be a friend of the bridegroom and watch the bridegroom come to secure his bride.

John wants Jesus to increase, and he will decrease so that Jesus might be the One all eyes turn to. John is the ultimate friend of the Bridegroom.

Apply – I want to live as a friend of the Bridegroom. I know all that God has given to me and allowed me to do is a gift from heaven. I pray for the grace of God that I might decrease and that He would increase. May I find joy in seeing the Jesus the Bridegroom receive the love and glory that He is due.

Respond – Lord, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your plan. I want to give all the glory to Jesus, and live life for His sake. Give me the same heart that John had in wanting to be a friend of the bridegroom, gladly willing to decrease that He might increase in my life. More of you Jesus! More of you.
