The Helper Will Come To You

Catching up on my postings in John. I will finish until the END!

HIGHLIGHT – John 16:7-15

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you…

13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He [c]will take of Mine and declare it to you.

EXPLAIN – Would you have liked to walk with Jesus when He was here on the earth?

The disciples had that opportunity, and now Jesus was preparing to leave them. First Jesus would go to the cross, through the cross, and then back to heaven at the right hand of God. He was going to leave the ministry, the keys to the Kingdom of God, in the hands of the disciples. They had no real sense what will happen in the days to come as the Passion of Jesus unfolded. For now, He just says that He is going away and that it will be to their advantage. What could be better than having walking Jesus walk beside you? What if Jesus could always be with you, every moment, and live inside you? Jesus said that He would depart and that the Helper would come in His place. In John 14, Jesus He would send another – meaning one who is separate from me, but just like me. The Holy Spirit was going to come in Jesus name, and in Jesus place. When Jesus walked the earth in a human body, He was isolated to one place at a time. He was limited by his human body. When He would send the Spirit, the Presence of Jesus would be available to all of His people everywhere at the same time. There would be no limit to the Presence and Ministry of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is present with you as you read this blog. Can you tune into his Presence, recognize that He is with you and in you right now at this moment. Welcome Him. Embrace the Presence of Jesus in the Person of the Holy Spirit.

What if Jesus could always be with you,
every moment, and live inside you?

The Holy Spirit would be our HELPER. Jesus called Him the “Spirit of truth” for He would guide us into all truth (v. 13). The Holy Spirit would not speak on his own, but He would reveal the things of God, the things spoken to Him by Jesus. The Holy Spirit has come to help us discover Jesus fully. He will lead us into the truth of Jesus. Holy Spirit has come to glorify Jesus – taking the truth of Jesus Christ, the glory of Jesus Christ, the reality of Jesus Christ – and He will declare it and reveal it all to us. Holy Spirit loves to put the spotlight on Jesus. He loves and lives (eternally I might add) to reveal Jesus to the world, to reveal the Father’s heart and Word to the world. Holy Spirit has come as our Helper. He is literally called the Paraclete – the One who comes to our side, alongside of us. He lives inside of us when we put faith in Jesus, and comes alongside of us as we seek to follow Jesus, to become more like Jesus.

It would be great to walk in person with Jesus, but we have been given a really good deal. Jesus is with us and in us always through His Spirit.

We need HELP so Jesus sent the Helper. Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the Trinity who has lived eternally in fellowship with the Father and the Son. He will come to us and bring the Presence of Jesus to us – make Jesus real to us, lead us deeper into the heart of Jesus, and into the truth of God’s Kingdom. It would be great to walk in person with Jesus, but we have been given a really good deal. Jesus is with us and in us always through His Spirit. Thank you Holy Spirit for your Presence with me, in me, around me, and through me. Thank you for all of your Help.

APPLY

As followers, we must recognize and embrace the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit. Coming to truly know the Holy Spirit in a real and more personal way has helped me draw closer to Jesus. I know He has come to help me, so I continually seek for and ask for His help. Holy Spirit is the only One who can help and enable to live the Christian life. I cannot do it without my Helper. I will seek to grow continually dependent upon Him. Even now, I give thanks as I recognize Holy Spirit is with me at this moment – and He has come to make Jesus alive to me, and in me. Amen.

RESPOND

I have already stated the only response is to be completely dependent upon Him. I will trust Holy Spirit and His work in my life.

Holy Spirit, I welcome you in Jesus name. You are my teacher and Helper who leads me into all truth. Thank you coming to me and making Jesus real to me. I love Jesus with all of my heart Holy Spirit, and I want to grow closer to Him. Holy Spirit, I trust your leadership and ask for your revelation. I rely on your strength and power, not my own. I want everything you have for me Holy Spirit, all that Jesus wants to give to me. Come and fill me Spirit of the Living God. Wash over me, empower me, teach me, convict me, lead me, enlighten me, and take me deeper and deeper into Jesus, into the Father, and into Kingdom of God. I cannot do this without YOU Holy Spirit. I surrender to You in the name of Jesus. Amen.
